Wapcar Automotive News)The most practical variant of the popular all-terrain vehicle is coming next month

We have been waiting for the 4-door version of the Jimny from Suzuki cars for a long time and the latest spy shots from India prove that it is finally ready to hit the road. The longer Jimny was first spotted without any camouflage, ahead of its debut at Auto Expo 2023 in January.

The SUV was near the city of Leh in photos, the joint capital of the Ladakh region in India. Unlike previous sightings of the camouflaged prototype in Europe, this time it fully showed due to ongoing photography/videography for promotional purposes.

Predictably, the four-door Jimny’s design closely mirrors its three-door rival, which looks identical to the B-pillar. Typically, four-door models have smaller front doors than three-door models, but that’s not the case with Jimny. As a result, the rear doors are slightly shorter despite the significantly longer wheelbase. It rumored to have increased by 300 mm (11.8 in) to 2,550 mm (100.4 in). The stretched model will be 3,850mm (151.6 inches) long, with other dimensions unchanged.

Profile

The profile now has three windows. While the front and rear overhangs remain short enough that the approach and exit angles are available. The three-door model can extract the rear of Jimny, including a hinged tailgate with a spare tire and bumper-mounted taillights. The “Jimny” badge is clear in the photos, refuting previous rumors about the possibility of using a different name.

Rushlane reports that the longer Maruti Suzuki Jimny can optionally offer in a three-row configuration, although passenger space limited in a seven-seat variant. In any case, the longer Jimny will provide comfortable leg room for the rear passengers and a matching trunk. This would make it a practical, family-friendly ladder chassis SUV, unlike the Jimny. It is currently only available as a two-seat LCV in European markets. The dashboard will most likely be carried over from the current model. And they are with minimal changes, including a new 9-inch infotainment screen from other Suzuki models. Rushlane and Autocar India report that the Jimny will have a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine.

The division fitted the three-door Jimny with outputs ranging from 101 hp (75 kW / 102 hp) to 107 hp (79 kW / 108 hp) depending on the market.

Media outlets

Other media outlets, including Motor Beam, suggest the four-cylinder engine will update with mild hybrid technology. It could improve performance and reduce emissions. The team has upgraded the electric motor in question for the entire Jimny range. It will allow Suzuki to re-supply the engine as a passenger SUV in Europe.

Either way, power is sent to all four wheels using the AllGrip Pro 4WD system. Along with the standard 5-speed manual transmission, an optional automatic transmission also joins the lineup.

Suzuki Jimny 5-door market launch in India in mid-2023 maybe. And other markets are expected to launch in the near future. Rival models in India will include upcoming five-door variants. It is of the similarly styled New Force Gurkha and the Wrangler-style Mahindra Thar. Europeans, on the other hand, don’t have much choice when it comes to affordable ladder-frame SUVs. So that limited the competition to the solid but off-road-ready Dacia Duster and its companion.
