Aadhaar card update: How to change address online

by Uneeb Khan

Thankfully, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has facilitated an easy method for Aadhaar card address change online, that you can do from the comfort of your home.

How to Change Aadhaar Card Address Online?

The online method to revise your address on the Aadhaar card is fairly straightforward and the first step involves getting your documentation in order.

1. Documentation: Before you start the process of changing your address, ensure that you have the correct and valid proof of residence. The UIDAI website provides a list of valid documents including Passport, Ration Card, Voter ID, Driving License, and other government-approved documents.

2. Login: Once you have your documentation ready, log on to the official UIDAI website (https://uidai.gov.in/). Click on the “Update Aadhaar Details (Online)” under the “My Aadhaar” tab.

3. Request: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, and request for an OTP that’ll be sent to your registered mobile number. Then, upload your scanned documents as relevant proof of address.

4. BPO Service Provider: After uploading, you will have to select a suitable BPO service provider who will review your request.

5. Acknowledgment: Once all details are submitted, you’ll receive an Update Request Number (URN). This can be used to track the status of your Aadhaar card update request.

Processing and verification can take a few weeks, but once completed, the updated Aadhaar card can be downloaded from the UIDAI portal. Alternatively, you can also request for a new Aadhaar card to be sent by post.

How to Get an Aadhaar Card?

For those who might not have an Aadhaar Card yet, getting one is straightforward. After booking an appointment at your nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Center, you just need to carry certain documents for identity, address, and birth proof. The officials at the center will capture your biometric data i.e., fingerprint and iris scans along with your photograph.

Post verification of documents and biometric data, you’ll be given an acknowledgement slip carrying your 14-digit enrolment number that can be used to check the status of your Aadhaar card application.

In a few weeks, your Aadhaar card will be dispatched and delivered to your residential address. You can also download an e-version of your Aadhaar card from the official website of UIDAI.

You can even opt for an mAadhaar application, a mobile application developed by the UIDAI, where you can carry a digital copy of your Aadhaar card. This application allows you to have access anytime, anywhere making it a convenient option.

In conclusion, the process to apply for an Aadhaar card or to update one, especially for Aadhaar card address change online, is simple and easily accessible. The online services provided by UIDAI have made it quite convenient for residents to manage and update Aadhaar information at the click of a button, saving us the trouble of long queues and tedious paperwork. Thus, by digitizing these governmental procedures, India is taking a huge leap towards its goal of a harmonized and digital economy.
