The best time to enjoy this trek is from June to September. This is when you can experience the beautiful Himalayan weather.

During this period, snow starts melting and you can see a lot of greenery. You can also see various kinds of flowers adorning the trail.

Difficulty Level

Hampta Pass Trek is an easy to moderate-level trek that can be taken on by beginner adventurers and seasoned trekkers alike. However, this hike does pose some rocky inclines and high vertical climbs.

This Himalayan adventure takes you through picturesque campsites such as Jobra, Jwara adorning the long wildflower meadow at the meeting point of valleys and Balu Ka Ghera situated on the edge of river gushing beneath the majestic Shea Goru. The Chandratal lake – the moon lake is a mesmerizing spectacle that radiates mystical energy.

Campsites

The Hampta Pass Trek has distinct campsites such as Jobra, Jwara and Balu Ka Ghera. The first two are engulfed by dense forest comprising of pine, maple and silver birch trees while the latter has a stunning valley in front and rocky mountains encompassing the surroundings.

The highlight of the trek is Chandratal lake, a mesmerizing alpine lake that paints a new picture every time you visit it. The trek also passes through small hamlets giving you a glimpse into the lifestyle and culture of the Himalayan populace.

Day 1

In every turn on the Hampta Pass Trek, you get to witness a different side of nature. From slanting slopes to glaciers that look like icy carpets and rhododendron forests, the trail is full of alluring sights.

The trek also takes you to the enchanting Chandratal Lake. Located at 14,100 feet, the lake is a dreamlike destination surrounded by meadows and peaks. The pristine waters of the lake change colors throughout the day, making it even more beautiful.

Day 2: Chikka

During this day, the trek begins with a drive from Manali to Jobra. This journey will be accompanied by an assortment of pine trees, rocky cliffs, and various other enthralling sights.

The trek also involves some adventurous river crossings. One needs to form a tight link with the group and follow the instructions given by the Trek Leader in order to overcome any strong undercurrents. Once you cross this section, the trail begins to descend gradually.

Day 3: Jobra

The Hampta Pass Trek is an ideal trek for beginners and experienced hikers alike. This moderate-level trek is famous for its stunning views of the Himalayas. It also takes trekkers to beautiful alpine lakes.

From the first campsite Chika, the trails begin to gain height. They are covered with small shrubs, oak, and deodar trees.

The trail then continues towards Jwara, which is surrounded by flower meadows. From here, the trails incline with snow to reach Balu Ka Ghera and finally Shea Goru.

Day 4: Jwara

After a day of rest and acclimatization, it is time for you to begin the journey to Hampta Pass. Begin your trek from Manali and spend the next few days acclimatizing to the high altitude of the Himalayas.

Camping next to mellow flowing rivers and waterfalls, traversing through lush green meadows filled with countless wildflowers, looking up at snow-clad mountains, and experiencing the dramatic landscape of this region is what makes the Hampta Pass Trek a memorable one.

Day 5: Balu Ka Ghera

The fourth day of your trek starts after you break your camps and start trekking towards Balu Ka Ghera. The trail is exciting as you walk alongside Rani Nallah and climb through a rock-laden path.

As you continue climbing, you get to witness a barren landscape of the Himalayas. You will also encounter shepherds who visit this place to nourish their sheep. The trek is thrilling and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Day 6: Hampta Pass

As you trek from Jwara to Balu ka Ghera, the mountains will captivate your attention. Stunningly colored wildflowers and the icy glaciers that look like carpets will leave you amazed.

The Hampta Pass trek is a moderate-level trek and requires a reasonable amount of fitness. It is recommended to have completed a few level 3 or 4 treks before attempting this one.

Day 7: Shea Goru

The trek from Chika to Balu ka Gera is a moderately-paced trail with some patches of snow. On arrival, you can set up your tents in a meadow surrounded by high mountains.

Then comes the next treat, the action-packed river crossing at Shea Goru. The chilling river stream calls for anticipation, thrill, and adrenaline rush.

This is followed by a simple walk along pasturelands to Chhatru, from where you drive to Manali.
