Follow the below-mentioned steps to easily change the SSID of the Netgear extender:

  1. Turn On your Extender

The first and foremost step is to locate the power socket which is located near your router. Now, plug the extender into the power socket and then press the power button that is located on it. To ensure a proper power supply to the extender, make sure of the below-mentioned points:

  • Check whether the wall socket is damaged or not.
  • Ensure is it sufficiently providing electricity to the extender.
  • Make sure the power cord of the extender is not damaged or worn out from any side.
  • If the extender is connected to the power adaptor, ensure the power nods are not damaged.
  1. Connect the WiFi Devices 

The second step is to connect the WiFi devices through an Ethernet cable. While connecting the router through the extender, keep a check on the below-mentioned points:

  • Ensure the Ethernet cable is not damaged or worn out from any side or not.
  • Also, the Ethernet connection should be finger tight.

The next step is to move your cursor towards the address bar and type the default IP or web address. After this, the login page will appear on your desktop. Fill in the required login credentials in their respective fields. Click the Log In button after filling in the login credentials. There are certain points to be remembered while accessing the login page. They are as follows:

  • For accessing the login page, type the web address in the address bar only, not in the search bar.
  • Use the default web address which is supported by your system. Mywifiext local is for MAC users and mywifiext.com is for Window users.
  • Avoid typos while entering the default address, otherwise you may go to the wrong destination.
  • While entering the username and password into their respective fields, make sure the Caps Lock key is off as login credentials are case sensitive.
  •  Make sure, in past, if you had changed your username and password, then there is no sense in using the default username and password. In this scenario, use the changed login credentials.
  1. Change WiFi Name 

After accessing the login page, the Netgear Genie setup wizard will open on the desktop. In order to change Netgear_ext (SSID) follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Click on the Menu button.
  • After selecting the Settings tab, click on the Wireless Settings option.

Now, you can easily change the name of the Netgear extender, by just entering the new SSID in its field. After filling in all new SSID, you need to scroll down and click on the Save option in order to apply changes.
