Bring the Devices Closer

In case the Orbo satellite is not getting connected to the Orbi router, then the very first thing that you need to have a look at is the distance between the devices. Distance between the router and satellite plays a vital role in the process. In case you have placed them far from each other then the communication between them is far from impossible.

We understand that you got the Orbi satellite to create a mesh system and it needs to be placed at a place where you want to have a WiFi connection. But while you are setting up your satellite for the first time, it is essential that the devices are kept next to each other.

Thus bring the devices closer and then see if they get connected or not. If you still see Orbi purple light, this means the devices are unable to connect.

Check Power Supply to the Devices

If the first hack did not help you, then check the power supply to the Orbi devices. A poor power supply is one of the most common reasons that users get stuck while connecting the Orbi devices. All you need to do is check if the power sockets that you have used to supply electricity to the Orbi router as well as the satellite are not damaged.

Apart from checking the sockets, you must also the power cables. It might be loosely plugged in. Make the necessary changes. In case of power outages, consider using a UPS.

Use Sync Button

To connect the Orbi router to the satellite, you have two options. One is placing them closer to each other and letting them establish a connection. The second one is to connect them manually using the Sync buttons.

If the former method is not helping you to connect the Orbi devices, then it is recommended that you make use of the latter one. The steps are as follows:

  1. Turn on the Orbi devices first.
  2. Press the Sync button located on the Orbi router.
  3. Within 2 minutes, press the Sync button on the satellite also.
  4. The devices will get connected easily now.

Perform a Power Cycle

Are you still facing the same issue? Well if yes is the answer to the question, then perform a power cycle right now. This process does no harm to your device. In fact it is advised that you should reboot your Orbi devices often to give them some rest. Thus power cycle Netgear Orbi by using the steps given below:

  1. Disconnect the Orbi router and the modem.
  2. Turn off the Orbi router and satellite.
  3. Wait for about 5 minutes.
  4. Connect the devices again.
  5. Turn them on.

After rebooting (power cycling) the devices, try to connect them once again.

Reset Orbi Devices

When nothing works you are left with resetting the Orbi devices. This erases the current configuration settings from your devices by restoring the factory settings. Pressing the Reset hole using a paper clip will do the needful.

After the reset is done, set up your Orbi router one more time just the way you did it after purchasing it. You can use the Orbi app or access the orbilogin page on a PC to get the setup done.

The Closing Note

We are very sure that once you have set up your Orbi router after resetting it, adding the satellite to it will become a piece of cake for you. This is all about how you can get rid of the Orbi satellite not connecting to the router issue. Once the connection has been successfully made, you can go ahead and shift the satellite to the desired place. But now too, you must keep it within the boundary line of your router.
