What is it like to fly to San Francisco

by gaurav gupta

San Francisco makes things easy for visitors: dress standards are almost nonexistent. And the city’s self-aware, laid-back culture keeps formality to a small. But, there are a few things a clever tourist may do ahead of time to maximize their time. Such as reserving restaurant tables.

Tipping etiquette might be tough if you’re not used to it, and navigating the nightlife differs from other cities, so don’t be concerned… I’m a native of California who has spent most of my life in and around the Bay Area. It’s simple to have a good time in San Francisco. But these insider secrets will make your vacation much better.

1. Make restaurant reservations before your arrival

Reservations are required at popular San Francisco restaurants. Including Liholiho Yacht Club, Izzy’s Steaks & Chops, and State Bird Provisions. The sooner you make them, the more helpful your selections will be. Most restaurants accept reservations through their websites, OpenTable, or other comparable services.

If the online system or app does not say any availability. Call the restaurant; certain seats may be held for phone bookings and early-evening walk-ins. And there may be last-minute cancellations or space at the bar. Landmark restaurants have limited capacity. So call a month in advance and take what is offered.

2. Book your Alcatraz tickets at least a month in advance

Tickets for the Rock are always in high demand. Book yours at least a month in advance, otherwise you may have as much trouble getting to Alcatraz as the inmates did fleeing!

3. Wear what makes you comfortable

The San Francisco cliché of everyone wearing jeans and a sweatshirt still remains true. You will see people dressed in ways that would have astonished their parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents.

The Bay Area is a casual city, and while people dress down, the contrary is not uncommon.. Anything goes. So if you have a spectacular costume in mind, wear it for everyone’s enjoyment.

4. When to eat and drink

Many restaurants operate seven days a week, while others are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Breakfast is typically offered from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Supper begins around 5:30 p.m., with the last service between 9 p.m,. Weekend brunch runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

In San Francisco, partying all night is a common DIY hobby. Downtown and South of Market (SoMa) bars have happy-hour crowds from 4 pm to 7 pm. Otherwise, bars are bustling by 9 pm, with the last call at 10:30 pm to 11:30 pm on weekdays and 1:30 am on weekends.

5. Do not wait too long to hit the club

Most clubs charge between $10 and $25 at the door. For cheaper admission, arrive before 10 p.m. Sign up for the guest roster online (search for a VIP or RSVP link). At high-end clubs, bottle service seating may be reserved. And you’ll normally wait no more than 15 minutes to get in.

Dress codes are relaxed, although club bouncers will turn away anyone wearing flip-flops, shorts, or T-shirts. On weekdays, many clubs close by 11:30 p.m., and on weekends at 1:30 a.m,. Most clubs close at about 2 a.m. (due to California’s strict liquor rules). However, some stay open until 4 a.m. or later.

6. San Francisco’s public transportation is an adventure

With infamously awful traffic and either impossible or prohibitively costly parking. Most San Franciscans opt to walk, cycle, or ride-share.

Riding the Muni is an excellent way to experience San Francisco. Its antique streetcars and distinctive cable cars serve as attractions. While buses and light rail trains connect the city’s major areas. But what about getting around by car? Forget it. Avoid driving until you’re ready to leave town.
