What You Can Do When Your Car Doesn’t Jump Start

by Uneeb Khan

Your automobile can break down in the middle of the road for several reasons: a weak or dead battery. However, if you cannot jump-start it, the issue may be with your starter, alternator, or other electrical system components, such as the all-too-common electrical grounding issue. It may also be due to defective jumper cables or a lack of competence on your side. All you know is that you are stuck on the side of the road since your automobile won’t move anytime soon.

AAA is the best travel partner for Americans. Whether navigating local roads to school, businesses, or athletic events, a triple-A towing membership travels with you every mile.

In case if you are not in America or are not a member of AAA, you may have three main options:

  1. Try to jump-start it
  2. Get roadside assistance
  3. Call a tow service

Try to jump-start your car:

Before trying a jump-start, consult the owner’s instructions. Instead of connecting the wires directly to the battery terminals, as in older vehicles, jump-start lugs are now standard on many newer vehicles. Furthermore, the guarantee may be voided if you jump-start the car since certain manufacturers do not permit it. You must take further measures in certain cars, like turning on the defroster or disconnecting a fuse. If any safety measures need to be followed, they should be outlined in the handbook.

  • In a vehicle with an excellent battery, turn off the engine.
  • Leave adequate space between vehicles so that wires can reach them, but ensure they don’t touch.
  • Make sure the jumping vehicle’s battery voltage checks OK. It’s dangerous for both cars if they don’t fit properly.
  • It’s a good idea to unplug any extraneous gadgets (like phone chargers) since the power spike from the starter might potentially short them out.
  • Make sure the parking brakes are on in both vehicles and the park or neutral.
  • Both cars’ headlights, radios, and turn signals (including hazard lights) must be turned off at all times.
  • Those members of AAA or triple-A towing may be certain that they will always have access to emergency roadside service and can benefit from it when they fail to jump-start their car.

Get roadside assistance:

When a car breaks down on the side of the road and leaves its driver stranded, roadside assistance is an invaluable lifeline. When you contact for assistance, the company will either give you advice over the phone or dispatch a team of roadside workers to get your car moving again. If they determine that you require more specific repairs, they will dispatch a tow truck to transport your automobile to the closest auto repair facility.

Do these things to make sure you and other people on the road are safe before calling for roadside help:

  • First and foremost, before asking for roadside assistance, you should make your car visible to other vehicles. It’s crucial for your own safety, of course, but it also greatly benefits the security of other motorists on the road, who would otherwise miss your vehicle and run smack into it.
  • Turn on your danger lights to draw more attention to your vehicle. Turning on the inside lights will help increase your vehicle’s visibility. You should use the road flares and reflectors in your emergency automobile pack to prevent being hit by oncoming vehicles.

Call a tow service:

Suppose you try everything said above and still don’t have insurance. What are the options remaining for you?

All you need to do is get in touch with a reliable local towing agency that has experience rescuing stranded drivers. Be sure the towing service you use provides both of the following before committing to them.

Make it clear to the towing service that you have a dead battery and are unable to jump-start your vehicle. They’ll bring a professional battery starting kit and extra-strong jumper wires. They will use their tools to try to get your car operating again.

If the towing company is unable to jump-start your automobile, they should be able to connect up your vehicle and take it to the garage of your choice. If no one can get your automobile started, you’ll want it fixed as quickly as possible.
