“Fallin” is a song from the debut album “Songs in A Mirror”. Keys once explained, while telling Billboard, that she wanted to write a song for someone aged 10 to 12. Like a Young Micheal Jackson, who was young and still sang the stuff seemed deep. “Fallin” is about the ups and downs of relations. Sometimes relationship bond is strong, and sometimes it is weakened and difficult to go with each other.

The composition key is E minor with a vocal range from the lower note of B3to the higher note of E5. The basic chord progression of the song is Em-Bm7Em-Bm7. It follows a moderate blue tempo in the whole chorus of the song.

The song received several reviews. NME called it a massive hit with piano tickles and Alicia stroked the spines with ice cubes.

Beth Johnson of Entertainment Weekly described the song as the gospel fervor of lovesick righteousness. 

Robert Hilburn (Los Angeles Times), said that the song is having the neo-soul energy of Macy Gray and Jill Scott. 

Sam Faulkner said that song had the deeper moments that creep up and grab one illustrated. 

Mark Anthony Neal of PopMatters said that the song “combines Keys’ natural blue register with a subtle sample of James Brown’s ‘It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World”.

Chart performance:

In the United States, “Fallin” got number ninety-eight on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of June 16, 2001.

It stayed on the chart for nine weeks and then eventually peaked at number one. It was also positioned number two on Billboard Year-End Hot 100 during 2001.

It is a low key clip without dance. It starts with a radio playing “Girlfriend”. Keys appears sitting at a piano. She visits her boyfriend in a prison.
