Studying in the UK costs varies across universities, disciplines, and course tenure. Private and premium intuitions have higher tuition fees. As stated by the British Council website, the average fees for international students to study in the UK are between £10,000 and £26,000 (INR 11 Lakhs – INR 27 Lakhs) per annum.    

Living costs in UK for an Indian Student

  • Outside London: Minimum declaration towards living expenses prescribed by the Government of UK is £1,023
  • In London – Living expenses:  – Minimum declaration towards living expenses prescribed by the Government of UK is £1,334
  • Average monthly expenditure – Food, accommodation, and other living costs – £800 – £1,300 (stated by the British Council)

Graduate Immigration Route (GIR) and Post Study Work Opportunities in the UK

  • Indian students that have successfully secured their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are eligible under the new GIR.
  • Eligible students can stay back in the UK for 2 years, while Ph.D. students for 3 years.
  • Students may work across any level of skill with no minimum salary requirement.  
  • Only Tier 4 Visa holders can apply for the Graduate Route from Inside the UK.
  • For each year that the student stays in the UK, they are to incur a visa fee of £700 and an Immigration Health Surcharge of £624.
  • On the expiry of the Graduate Route, candidates who wish to continue working in the UK can apply for a Skilled Worker Visa.  

Healthcare in UK for Indian Students

· Indian students are required to pay an Immigration Health Surcharge. 

· £470 per year for a visa duration of over 6 months

· £235 if the student leaves the country in less than 6 months

· £470 if a student leaves the country within a year, but has stayed for over 6 months

· Dependant visa applicants also have to pay Immigration Health Surcharge

· The stated fee is in addition to the visa application fees and is an integral part of the visa application process.
