by Uneeb Khan

Trekking is an outdoor activity in which you cover a particularly rural area on foot to explore the variations in flora and fauna there, explore your surroundings, and get peace and mental stability. They are long walks, you take in the lap of nature for getting away from the daily tantrums of your life, for being in peace with your loved ones, and to receive what mother nature has to give.

Trekking is a very popular activity done by different age groups like teenagers aged from 15-18 and youngsters aged from 20-30 and adults do trek too. Sometimes you can see very aged people doing treks too. All you need for trekking is a strong, determined heart with good fitness and health.

In India, trekking can be done in various regions for example, in the Himalayan region, the Western Ghats, and the Northeast region. The Himalayan region is the most famous trekking region. Dev Bhoomi Himachal offers a lot of treks in the Himalayan region. One of the best and short treks in the Himalayan region is the Triund trek.

If you are visiting Dharamshala, it will clear your mind and clean your soul, you will feel peaceful from within, and trust me, a trek to Triund will complete this whole process, the whole circle and you will be experiencing the best time of your life.

Triund had a lot of scenic views to offer to the trekkers. You can see the whole Kangra from one side of the summit and the snow-capped Dhauladhar ranges from the other. The trail is covered in dense oak, pine, and deodar forests.

There are a lot of places nearby that you can visit before or after you have completed your trek, like- Bhagsu waterfall, Namgyal Monastery, Guna Devi temple, and many more.

Location

This small hill station is located in the Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. It is situated in Dharamkot and is located at the foot of the Dhauladhar ranges. It is considered the crown of Dharamshala. Triund is located at an elevation of 2,828 meters. It is located at a distance of 19.6 Kms from Kangra main market, 5.5 Kms from Dharamshala, and 3.5 Kms away from MacLeod Ganj.

Best time to undertake Triund Trek

Triund trek is accessible to people throughout the year. It depends on your comfort level and what kind of scenery you want to enjoy. There are multiple options for you all.

First are the summer months, i.e., May and June. These are the months when you will be able to witness clear skies and greenery around you. The trees will be full of green leaves and the trail would be full of lush green grass. The sunset and the sunrise would be clear and beautiful.

Second, are the winter months, i.e., November to January. These are the months when everything is covered under snow. You will be seeing a pure white blanket of snow over Triund, and trust me, you will love this change in scenery. During winters, Triund is considered one of the best winter treks in the Himalayan region. The weather will be chilly, the sky will be star-studded and the ground will be white.

October is also considered one of the best months to undertake the Triund Trek as the monsoon has just retreated, and the mountains are all green in color, the scenery is foggy, the sunsets, and the sunrise all are covered in fog.

You can also undertake this trek in monsoon season, but it is not recommended as the trail gets slippery and you certainly don’t want to set camps during the night as it will be water drooling all over the place and it will become tough for you to stay.

Quick Itinerary

As you know, the trek is one of the shortest treks, so, it comes with two options- the first is with an overnight camping stay and the second is, without the overnight stay.

You will be starting your trek from Dharamkot. The trail is only 8 Kms long and will take an approximate time of 4-5 hours in which you will be going through dense forests. If you reach the top of Triund by evening, you can witness the most beautiful sunset of your life, after seeing the Triund sunset, you will find tranquillity. Afterward, you’ll be setting your camps up and staying under the gazing sky studded with a lot of twinkling stars. Early in the morning, you can witness the astonishing Triund sunrise with your loved ones. The sunrise is worth a thousand likes on your Instagram profile. After seeing the sunrise, now you’ll be heading back to Dharamkot, the base of the tour trek. Your beautiful trek has now ended.
